They said they could not take the numbers under any circumstances unless the parents gave them my numbers. I tried to reason with them and explained what harm would it do to take the information. If I am not on the pick up list, I wouldn't be able to pick them up any way, but at least they have someone to call that could find my daughter or her fiance' and they could get to the school. I bring the kids to school and pick them up at dismissal time on a regular basis.
I told the school and the school board as far as I am concerned I considered it irresponsible. All they would have to do is call me and ask me to get in touch with my daughter and that they needed to talk to her. Do you see the harm in that?
Why wouldn't a school air on the side of caution and at least take the numbers. They could "red flag" them as numbers not given to them by the parents, but at least they would have a way to contact some one. They could go back and check their records to the schools they previously attended in this same county, and they could see that I was listed on the contact list.
Is this the world we live in? This isn't the American way. We were brought up in my day and age to protect your children at home in schools, everywhere at all costs.
Some radical changes need to be made, because this policy makes absolutely no sense to me no matter how I try to understand it.
Wouldn't you do the same thing if you had kids or grandchildren or am I the only fanatic, obsessive convulsive crazy one?

can't your daughter just ask them to put you on the list? too bad about the panic attack. I am overcoming my anxiety with Reliv and EMDR. Reliv is a nutritional supplement and if you are interested, you can talk to other people who have had results with anxiety. EMDR is a form of therapy that helps the brain move thru past traumas. My anxiety is about 85% gone now.
I've asked my daughter over and over again, but she never follows through on anything. My grandson has the paperwork that needs her signature in his book bag, and has had it for weeks. I will have to physically go to her house, and put it in front of her face and make her sign it. She doesn't worry about the importance of the school being able to contact someone. Although, today because of my complete outrage and emails to the school board, and to the school, and also talking to the schools yesterday they called and left a message that it is spirit day at my grandson's school. This leads me to believe they may have reconsidered and put me on the list. I won't rest though until I know for sure and until my daughter signs the paperwork.
My panic attacks are bad. My life has come to a hault. I've been like this now for over 10 years. I don't know what Reliv and EMDR are. I know nothing about any of that. I'd be interested to know more about exactly what you are talking to. I've tried every kind of medication and I'm still basically house bound with no life. My only enjoyment is this computer. My doctor has given up on me. He has never mentioned EMDR or Reliv. Please write back. I pray every day that some how I can overcome this. Panic Attacks run in my family. I have OCD, agrophobia, depression, as well.
I really appreciate your writing to me. I only get to talk to people by blogging. This is my only outlet.
